Developments in agroforestry indicate special potential to boost production, restore degraded lands, and sequester carbon.  The project is developing guidance in the following ways:

  • The project is developing a spatial tool for sub-Saharan Africa that identifies the production systems and agro-ecological regions that hold the greatest known potential for specific agroforestry systems, and the key elements of those systems.  This tool will also assemble the information that is known and not known about such systems and identify key gaps in knowledge.
  • The project is developing a strategic plan for expanding agroforestry in Rwanda, include estimation of potential food and greenhouse gas benefits from implementation.
  • The project is developing step-by-step guidance for how other countries or other organizations can develop strategic plans for expanding agroforestry in other areas.
